The Calendar app on your Mac and iOS devices are capable of subscribing to automatically updating iCal schedules. You add that together with the power of Episode Calendar, and your left with a simple and easy way to keep track of your TV shows. You can even set an alarm to remind you, and then have it set to sync across all your devices so you don’t miss your favourite show.
The way we’re going to do this is firstly setup up an account on http://episodecalendar.com/, then add a few TV shows to our favourites list, and then sync your TV shows to your Calendar app. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how to create an account on http://episodecalendar.com/, so we’ll skip that part. Once that’s done search your favourite shows and add them to your favourites. Now lets get them to sync with your Calendars app.
To sync your TV shows to your Calendar you need a special URL that has already been created just for you. While on the Episodes Calendar website, click the “Settings” button under your profile, then proceed to click the “RSS/iCal feeds”. You’ll now be presented with two texts box. One will say, “Subscribe to your episodes with RSS using this link”, the other, “Add your iCal feed to your Google Calendar using this link”. The link you want is the one that says: “Add your iCal feed to your Google Calendar using this link“.
Copy that link, and open up Calendars on your Mac. Now go to File -> New Calendar Subscriptions… Simply paste the URL you copied into the URL bar in Calendar, and press Subscribe.
All of your favourite TV shows will start populating in your Calendar. There are more options now that you can fiddle around with to suit your needs. You can rename the Calendar, remove the alerts telling you your show is going to start. Another option is to remove Attachments, I’ve never received an attachment from this, however I’d still recommend de-selecting it. And lastly you can change how often your Calendar sync with Episodes Calendar. Once every day seems to work fine for my needs.
